Vier wunderbare Bände reich illustriert, Holzschnitt-Reproduktionen, Fotos, Skizzen. "In Japanese the noun Sakura (lit. Cherry Tree) is sometimes used to express an abstract sentiment. In such cases it may appear in a compound word. When it is the initial part of the word the S is voiceless, in other words the character is read "Sakura". When it is the second part of the compound it is voiced and is read "Zakura". An example of the former is "Sakurayu" Hot Type of Piquant Tea in which a salted cherry blossom is dropped to add a subtle fragrance. Ubazakura is an example of the latter type of compound, a word used to describe a still beautiful woman of middle-age. On the box cover, the title of this book "Yoshitune Senbonzakura" is deliberately spelled with an S in order to help communicate its original meaning "Cherry Tree". In fact however, the Japanese title should be read "Senbonzakura" following the spelling used throughout the four volumes. The colors for the title pages for the four volumes in this set are taken from the yellow - green, orange and black stripes of the traditional broad striped curtain used on the Kabuki stage."
