Inside 18 pages, Segments, like leporello with much photo-realistic Motives, Illustrations, maybe light-prints (or lithographics with shiny surfaces, looks like old black-white photos, but all pictures are highly detailed drawings, not photos, and are printed on paper with light-yellow edges) from: New York and Vicinity (double-paged Panoramaview or "bird-view" -looks like a map- from Hoboken to Brooklyn, East River and moore, astonished detailed, each (!!!) building to see and few ships in foreground), an other, following pictures from Statue of Liberty, and the Pier of the North German Lloyd Hoboken and more, pictures from Steam Ships from North German Lloyd: S. S. Havel, Spree, Lahn, S. S. Trave, Steam Ship Eider, some views from inside the ships, technical details, steam machine, S. S. Werra, Ems, Edystone Lighthouse, some scenes from board of ships like State Room, Smoking Room, on their wedding trip, sea sick people, departure and others, and two nice views to German harbour citys Bremerhaven and Bremen. Inside the last page old pencil-writing "per S.S. Lahn 6. Sept. 1892" (the Steam Ship Lahn from North German Lloyd across the North Atlantic from german harbor city Bremen and arrived New York at September 7th, 1892). Looks like a Souvenir, selled on Board from Steam Ships of the "Norddeutscher Lloyd" with seldon seen motives, Ships and so on. English text under each picture of this item. Rarity, unknow! Perfect to make a reprint or facsimile from it! Much read, used condition, Hardcover signs of use, some pages tears/cracked on foldings, but complete, no missing pages/motives. " Leinenrücken, Kartondeckel "Format 19x14,5cm. Blauer Einband in Leinenoptik mit reicher gründerzeitlicher Gold-, Schwarz- und Blindprägung. Enthält 18 Segmente, leporelloartig verbunden (teils gerissen) mit fotorealistischen Darstellungen (Illustrationen, wohl Lichtdrucke o.ä., mit glänzender Oberfläche) u.a. von New York and Vicinity (Panoramadarstellung von Hoboken bis Brooklyn, East River usw., staunenswert detailiert, jedes Bauwerk (!) einzeln identifizierbar, Schiffe im Vordergund), der Freiheitsstatue, Pier und Bauten Norddeutscher Lloyd Hoboken, Dampfer S. BM Satires 6514 - Lettered with title followed by "See Foots Minor page 29.", text within image, and publication line: "Pubd April 10th. 1784 by W. Humphrey No 227 Strand". - North as Mother Cole is seated full-face in an arm-chair, the tips of his fingers sanctimoniously together. Beside him sits Fox, as Loader, a handkerchief in his right hand, his left pointing upwards. North says, "Ay I am agoing; a wasting and a wasting - what will become of the House when I am gone Heaven knows - No - When people are Missed then theyre Mourn`d - Sixteen years have I lived in St Stephens Chaple comfortably and creditably; and tho I say it, could have got bail any hour of the day! no knock me down doings in my house, a set of regular sedate sober Customers - no rioters - Sixteen did I say - Ay, eighteen years have I paid Scott and Lot - and during the whole time nobody have said Mrs North Why do you so? unless twice that I was threatned with impeachment and three times with a Halter!" Fox says, "May I lose deal, with an honour at bottom, if Old Moll does not bring tears in my Eyes." Mother Cole wears a hood and loose gown over her petticoat, her shoes are slashed to ease her bulging feet. By her side is a bottle labelled `Constitution Cordial`. Fox is dressed in his customary manner; at his side is an overturned dice-box and dice. (BM) North is represented as the sanctimonious bawd (for whom Mother Douglas was the supposed original) who became a follower of Whitefleld, Fox as the sharping gamester. The words of the play are cleverly parodied, the indictments of Mother Cole being changed into the threats of impeachment which Fox had made against North. (M. Wolfe, Thomas Wolfe, Thomas: Geweb und Fels Berlin Verlag Volk u. Welt, 1968. mittlere Erhaltung, Gebrauchsspuren , Papier nachgedunkelt Thomas Clayton Wolfe (* 3. Oktober 1900 in Asheville, North Carolina; ? 15. September 1938 in Baltimore, Maryland) war ein amerikanischer Schriftsteller. Er wuchs in einer vielköpfigen Familie als Sohn einer irisch-schottischen Mutter und eines pennsylvaniadeutschen Steinmetzen auf. Er studierte vier Jahre an der University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, war Schauspieler bei den Carolina Playmakers und studierte ab 1920 weiter an der Harvard University. Nach Misserfolgen als Dramatiker wurde er von 1924-29 Dozent für amerikanische Literatur und Englisch am Washington Square College der Universität New York, was er jedoch aufgab, um sich ganz dem Schreiben zu widmen. Sinclair Lewis würdigte ihn in seiner Nobelpreisrede 1930 mit den Worten: Da ist Thomas Wolfe, ein Junge von, ich glaube, dreißig Jahren, dessen einziger Roman Look Homeward, Angel! an die Seite unserer besten Literaturwerke gestellt werden kann, eine kolossalische Schöpfung von tiefer Lebenslust. Thomas Wolfes Haus in Asheville, North Carolina Wolfe unternahm sechs Reisen nach Europa und war während der Olympischen Sommerspiele 1936 in Berlin, wo er seinen deutschen Verleger Ernst Rowohlt traf. Sein Scharfblick für die veränderten Verhältnisse in Deutschland hat sich vor allem in Es führt kein Weg zurück niedergeschlagen, wo er hellsichtig die Verhaftung eines Juden an der Reichsgrenze beschreibt. In dem expressionistischen Dichter Hans Schiebelhuth fand er für seine ersten beiden Romane einen kongenialen Übersetzer, der dazu beitrug, dass Wolfe sich zeitweise in Deutschland höher geschätzt fühlte als in seiner Heimat. In Amerika gehörte William Faulkner, in Deutschland Hermann Hesse zu seinen Bewunderern. Er starb 1938 an Tuberkulose und wurde in seiner Heimatstadt Asheville, die er als Altamont unsterblich gemacht hatte, im Familiengrab beigesetzt. Geweb und Fels und Es führt kein Weg zurück wurden postum aus den hinterlassenen Manuskriptmassen zusammengestellt.
