Postcolonial Netherlands, which elicited much praise but also controversy following the publication of its Dutch edition, is the first scholarly monograph to address these themes in an internationally comparative framework. The author Gert Oostindie Professor of Colonial and Postcolonial History, his principal areas of research have been Dutch colonial and postcolonial history and Caribbean studies. He published extensively on the colonial history and decolonization of the Dutch Caribbean; on history, ethnicity and migration in the Caribbean and Latin America in general; on postcolonial migrations and the significance of colonial history to Dutch national identity; and on the decolonization war in Indonesia.
